"Tintin is myself. He reflects the best and brightest in me; he is my successful double. I am not a hero. But like all 15-year-old boys, I dreamt of being one and I have never stopped dreaming. Tintin has accomplished many things on my behalf.~Herge
Frequently Asked Questions
When did you start drawing?
I started drawing when I was five. Tintin by Herge was the first comic book that has inspired me to continue drawing to this day. He also is my first role model.I really love Herge's simple and clear style yet I cannot
make my art simple enough....Next is The Little Prince as another influence for my art style.
In addition, I had a lot of random influences from a list of children art's illustrators to artists and magazines from my own country. Even manga such as Please Save my Earth, Record of the Lodoss War, Escaflowne, Basara, CLAMP, Mizu Sahara (My Girl), Ouke no Moshou (Nu Hoang Ai Cap, This manga is very popular in Vietnam), Candy Candy, Alheim no Kishi(Hiep Si Rung Xanh/ Also popular in Vietnam including Candy Candy) and videogames had a big influence on my art style. Overall, I am very open to all kind of styles for learning purposes.
How did you get into web designing?
When I was in 6th grade, I was surfing the net to search for things to practice drawing in my sketchbook.
I then stumbled across a website called Aethereality.net by Ivy Tran, a graphic design website. From that point on,
I admired her website so much that I wanted to make my very own website just like her. I also wanted to do this
because I imagined the website as a base or personal hideout on the Internet. It is like my own world where I am free to do whatever I want with it.
So from 5th grade to early 8th grade, I focused most of my attention to graphics and web design. Please look at
the 'Resource(Epilogue) Section' to find all the websites that have helped me all the way until now.
Without them, it would not have been possible for me to create anything.
Also, please note that most of these websites got shut down because the owners are now in the mid and late 20s
and they are too busy to manage them anymore. This makes me truly disappointed and sad. I really wish they kept the website anyway so I can still visit them.
